Shanna Cox is a person who gets things done.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with Shanna for over 15 years, and her drive, focus, and positive energy has never ceased to amaze me.  We first began working together to advocate for better housing conditions in Lewiston, beginning with stronger code enforcement.  In 2013, we organized a healing ceremony in Kennedy Park to bring the community together and grieve the devastating fires our neighborhood had experienced in the spring of that year, displacing over 100 people from their homes.  Through Shanna’s leadership, we successfully changed the policy at city hall so that the prevention of fires and childhood lead poisoning became essential activities of code and planning, beginning with the clean up of the city’s most dangerous buildings.  And somehow Shanna was balancing 3 jobs and life as a single parent all through those political victories.

Shanna and I continued to work together on the issue of housing, and she helped to lay the groundwork for the city to produce the Neighborhood Transformation Plan, a model document that demonstrates the power of community process and inclusive planning.  These efforts have leveraged over $100 million of funds for mixed-income housing in Lewiston, and helped to jumpstart investment in housing that had been absent for over a decade.

Throughout her career, I have seen how much Shanna loves this city, and how she is willing to fight for it with passion and grit.  I cannot think of a more exciting person to support for Senate District 21 than Shanna Cox.  Please join me in voting for Shanna during the Democratic primary on June 9th, 2026.
